Assistant Professor of Medicine, Section of Endocrinology, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, CT
Research Collaborator, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, Metabolism, and Nutrition, Knowledge and Evaluation Research Unit, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN
Areas of expertise: Evidence based medicine, hypoglycemia, medication costs and cost-related insulin under-use, drivers of and solutions for insulin affordability crisis, development and evaluation of publicly reported quality measures
Research program: My research examines factors that lead to adverse drug events, such as hospital admissions for hypoglycemia, develops prediction models to identify patients at the highest risk for these events, and develops/tests interventions to reduce the risk. In addition, my research program is focused on cost-related insulin underuse, trends in the use and costs of insulin and other diabetes drugs, the drivers of increased spending, comparative safety and effectiveness of insulin analogs and human insulin products, and development of solutions to improve affordability.
Clinical and research interest: My goal is to improve outcomes among people with type 2 and type 1 diabetes, with special attention to older patients and those with multiple chronic conditions.
